Advocacy groups partner with LCRF
Patients are leading the way in advocating for research, and LCRF is proudly joining forces with several patient advocacy groups to focus on specific types of cancer. Find out more about our research partners.
Promising developments for lung cancer prevention and treatment
New findings are poised to make 2022 another banner year for developments in the lung cancer space. LCRF grantees are making an impact as they share findings from research you've made possible:
Application process open for 2022 lung cancer research grants
LCRF is accepting applications for its 2022 slate of research grants. This year, five tracks are available to fund innovative projects across a variety of diverse topics and to support the careers of talented scientists: LCRF Pilot Grants, LCRF Research Grants on Oncogenic Drivers in Lung Cancer, the LCRF ALK Positive Research Grant, the LCRF Research Grant on Early Detection and Pre-Neoplasia in Lung Cancer, and the LCRF Minority Career Development Award (CDA) in Lung Cancer.
Ask Congress to increase funding for lung cancer research
LCRF is one of 55 groups urging Congress to allocate $60 million to the Lung Cancer Research Program in the 2023 Department of Defense appropriations bill. Ask your Senators to sign the "Dear Colleague" letter before the deadline of May 12.
Save the dates for 2022 Free to Breathe Walks!
In-person walks are back! Four locations (Kansas City, New York, Chicago, and Jersey Shore) will host Free to Breathe Walks this fall, but no one is being left out. Our brand new Free to Breathe Anywhere Walk has an official date of October 22 but can be done any time, anywhere! We also have some exciting opportunities for partner events. Learn more and view other events on the calendar.
Inaugural Evening of Innovation gala September 28
Another big event will be taking place in person this fall a night where we will celebrate scientific discovery, honor a luminary in the field, and raise money for much needed lung cancer research. Our 2002 gala will honor Dr. Brendon M. Stiles, who has served LCRF in several capacities while making his mark as a thoracic surgeon and researcher. The gala will be held at New York City's Metropolitan Club.
#TogetherSeparately highlights
Our monthly livestreams continue to be a source of information and support for patients and families. In April, we celebrated Minority Cancer Awareness Month with a series of webinars. Dr. Loretta Erhunmwunsee discussed Minorities and Lung Cancer/Addressing Health Disparities; Dr. Edgardo Santos presented a Spanish language program on Living with Lung Cancer; and Dr. Rex H. Wu gave a talk in Cantonese on Lung Cancer and Lung Cancer Screening. Registration is open for the next #TogetherSeparately, Caring for Your Mental Health, on May 18 at 12 PM ET.
Coping with Loss & Honoring Loved Ones
LCRF is partnering with CancerCare to create a space where we can celebrate loved ones lost and discuss the bereavement journey. Christine Calafiore, MSW, LSW will lead the livestream on May 25 at 12 PM ET, and attendees will be given time to share their story and honor their loved ones.
KRAS Kickers & LCRF kick off partnership
KRAS Kickers and LCRF celebrated their research partnership with a special livestream, Behind the Scenes in Research with Dr. Chiara Ambrogio. Dr. Ambrogio shared exciting updates in the KRAS space, gave a video tour of her lab in Italy, and introduced her research team.
Patient supported by her 'wolf pack'
When Karen was diagnosed with EGFR+ NSCLC two years ago, her oncologist told her she had a wolf pack behind her to fight the disease. Now she's calling on her pack to lend their strength to others.
...the experts who have graciously given their time in our educational programs: Dr. Carolyn Presley, Dr. Jia Luo, Dr. Isabel Preeshagul, Dr. Stephen V. Liu, Dr. Chiara Ambrogio, Dr. Loretta Erhunmwunsee, Dr. Edgardo Santos, and Dr. Rex H. Liu. Thanks is also due Dr. Preeshagul for joining our #TogetherSeparately speakers and moderating the program.
