Community Fundraising Quick Tips & Fundamentals
Fundraise YOUR Way

Fundraising is an adventure. Somtimes it can be a challenge, and it is always exciting. We've created a guide to enhance your fundraising efforts and help make the "ask" enjoyable! Our 10 Quick Fundraising Tips below are just a portion of the great tools available to help you in your efforts.

10 Quick Fundraising Tips

  1. Find an event in your area and raise money for Free to BreatSet a goal – Set an achievable goal, but aim high and consider it a personal challenge. Then, tell everyone your goal; they will want to help you succeed!

  2. Share your story – Your goal is to engage potential donors in your personal lung cancer journey and inspire them to give. Telling your story in your own words and with pictures is incredibly powerful. Personalize your fundraising page today.

  3. Jumpstart your fundraising – Lead by example and make the first donation to your campaign to show how much the lung cancer cause matters to you.

  4. Ask – It sounds too simple, but the number one reason people donate is because they were asked. Use the tools in your personal Fundraising Success Center to send personalized messages to each potential donor (personal is better). Also, donors respond more positively and tend to give more when asked for a specific amount.

  5. 4 easy steps for asking – When reaching out to potential donors, regardless of what method you choose, here’s what you should say to them:
    • What the need is that you are trying to address?
    • Why it’s important to you?
    • What you are doing about it? (what is your commitment to it)
    • Then ASK: “Will you help by donating X?”

  6. Stay visible and up-to-date – Share your fundraising progress by keeping your personal fundraising page current and relevant. Your donors and potential donors appreciate hearing about your success and how close you are to your goal and its impact on transforming the lives of those with lung cancer – make them feel a part of what you’re accomplishing. Your could even include a link to your fundraising page in your email signature and post updates on social media as well.

  7. Follow up – Share your progress and ask again to those who haven’t yet responded.

  8. Reach your goal and then increase it – If you reach your goal before your target date, increase it. Then continue to update your supporters. You will be amazed how much you can raise!

  9. Say thank you – One of the most important steps of fundraising is to show your gratitude to every single person who supports your efforts. Send a personal thank you (a hand-written note goes a long way) and be sure to include how they’ve helped you achieve your goal and the impact it’s having on helping to double lung cancer survival by 2022! Donors love for you to share photos from your activity too!
