Honoring the memory of Bill Timmer
We are raising funds for the Lung Cancer Research Foundation in memory of our father and husband, Bill Timmer, Ph.D.
Bill managed a portfolio of over $100 million of clinical research grants involving brain, head and neck, lung, liver, colorectal, pancreatic, and sarcoma cancers, plus neuroblastoma, retinoblastoma and neurofibromatosis at the National Cancer Institute. He was an educator and mentor who helped investigators navigate what can be a difficult balance of pursuing funding while maintaining a primary focus on pursuing breakthroughs in research.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death, regardless of gender or ethnicity. More lives are lost to lung cancer than to colorectal, breast, and prostate cancers combined. Unfortunately, 1 in 16 people in the United States will be diagnosed with lung cancer in their lifetime with a new diagnosis every 2.2 minutes. (SEER Cancer Statistics Review, National Cancer Institute)
Only 6% of federal government dollars spent on cancer research are directed towards lung cancer research; this further proves the need of funding to match the devastating impact of the disease.
You can impact the future of those diagnosed with lung cancer by donating in memory of Bill. Your tax-deductible donation helps fund life-changing lung cancer research and education programs focused on improving lung cancer outcomes.
Thank you for your support and generosity. Together, we can make a difference for each and every person whose life has been touched by lung cancer.
Bill has always been a strong advocate of cancer research for well over 20 years and dedicated his life to eliminating cancer and its effects. Please help us carry on the legacy of Bill, our beloved father and husband.
