Journey for Jen
As many of you know, in June 2017 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. Being in the best shape of my life and an otherwise very healthy person - this was the last thing I ever expected. Of all cancers, lung cancer is the deadliest: more women die of it annually than from breast, cervical, and ovarian cancers combined.
A few weeks after diagnosis, I tested positive for the ALK+ gene mutation, a rare type of lung cancer typically found among younger non-smokers like myself. Thanks to the medical advances of the past decade, I’m keeping the cancer suppressed for now with a targeted therapy that blocks the gene from signaling. Unfortunately, these drugs only last for a period of time before the cancer returns and mutates. Longer-term survival is dependent on continued advances in medical research to develop newer, better treatments. This year I'm raising funds on behalf of the Lung Cancer Research Foundation to support funding for research to extend my and my fellow lung cancer survivors' lives. I am alive and doing well due to incredible advances in research. This research is crucial in extending our lives, so we never have to face a situation where our doctors are out of options to keep our cancer at bay.
Thank you all for supporting me on my journey and helping to extend my life and others like me with lung cancer. Your tax deductible donation will make a difference!
