Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the money go?
Proceeds benefit the Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF) and its mission to improve lung cancer outcomes by funding research for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of lung cancer.
Do I need to form/join a team in order to participate?
You don’t need to form or join a team in order to participate, but we do think it makes the day more fun! If participating with a team isn’t for you, you may choose “register as an individual” on the event’s registration page to participate as an individual.
What if it rains?
The Chicago Lung Run is a rain or shine event! However, if weather conditions become dangerous to event participants, we reserve the right to delay or cancel the event.
What if the event is cancelled?
In the case of a cancelled event, a t-shirt pick-up and donation collection date will be scheduled within one month of the event date. The date and location will be sent to registrants who are opted in to receive emails from the Lung Cancer Research Foundation's Free to Breathe Events Program. We will also post this information on Facebook. All registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, and cancelled events will not be re-scheduled.
Fundraising + Online Tools
What’s the easiest and most effective way to raise funds?
Ask! Your participant center includes email templates and a button for you to post your fundraising page link to Facebook. Another quick and easy way to ask for a donation is by sending a text message that includes a link to your page.
Where can I find the fundraising tools?
Tips, ideas and downloadable handouts can be found here.
How do I find out if my company has a matching gift program?
It’s easy to find out if your company will match your gift! Go to freetobreathe.org/employermatch and use our simple online tool. If your company isn’t listed, ask if they would consider starting a matching gift program.
What should I do with cash/check donations?
Checks made payable to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation can be mailed to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation at 155 East 55th Street, Suite 6H, New York, NY 10022. Cash and check donations may be submitted to the LCRF Information Table located in the vendor village. All cash and check donations will be added to the total on your fundraising page.
Where do I log in to my Fundraising Center?
A link to your Fundraising Center can be found at the top right corner of the event webpage.
I forgot my username/password. How do I reset it?
From the login popup, just use the “Forgot Username or Password?” link at the bottom of the box.
How do I change my goal?
First, log in to the Fundraising Center. Toward the top of the page, you’ll see your progress and your goal. You can change your goal by clicking the “change” link next to the words “My Goal.”
What is a personal page?
Your personal page contains your donation link, team page link (if you’re on a team), a photo, and a few paragraphs about why you are participating. We encourage you to replace the photo and text with your own! Telling your own story is the most compelling way to gain support.
Why isn’t my fundraising from Facebook reflected in my fundraising progress?
Unfortunately, if you added the "Donate" button to your personal Facebook page, it won't connect to your fundraising page and will not be credited towards your progress. The best way to use Facebook (and other social media platforms) for fundraising is to share the link to your personal fundraising page.
How do I register?
Register online or onsite on event day.
Can I register on event day?
Yes! Onsite registration will be available, but registering in advance is less expensive and gives you more time to fundraise.
What is a team captain responsible for?
The team captain sets goals, recruits members, creates excitement around fundraising, sends friendly reminders, and celebrates the team’s achievements. See the Team Captain Handbook for details.
How many people can be on a team?
As many as you can recruit!
How can my employer support the cause?
Businesses are welcome to form a team, and a variety of opportunities are available for partnering with the Lung Cancer Research Foundation's Free to Breathe Events Program. Contact the LCRF Events Team at (212) 588-1580 or email@example.com for details!
