2021 Free to Breathe Walk

Do It for Don

In November 2013, we were heartbroken to lose our father and husband, Don Wickersham, to lung cancer after a seven month battle with this devastating disease. Throughout Don's ordeal, we learned that lung cancer claims more lives than breast, colon and prostate cancer combined, yet lung cancer is one of the least funded areas of cancer research.

Since 2014, to honor Don's memory and to help raise funds for vital lung cancer research, we have participated in the Philadelphia Free to Breathe 5k event. The mission of Free to Breathe is to ensure that surviving lung cancer is the expectation, not the exception. Free to Breathe strives to double the rates of lung cancer survival by 2022 by funding research, helping patients fully understand their treatment options, ensuring molecular tumor testing is standard of care, and doubling the number of lung cancer patients participating in clinical trials

This year's race will be a virutal one and will take place on Saturday, October 2. We would love for you to register to join our team - Do It for Don - and walk/run on that day in memory of Don. There is no specific fundraising minimum for participants, but ideally we’d like each of our team members to help us raise money for lung cancer research.. If you're unable to join the team and walk/run, you can also support our fundraising efforts by making a donation to our team.

Don was a big believer in the ability of one person to make a difference - and he himself made a difference in the lives of so many. Please help us to honor Don’s life and make a difference in the battle against this disease by joining our team or making a donation.
