What Grampy Meant to Me
My story with lung cancer starts with a sweet soul. My grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer in May of 2013. He then passed away 4 short months later in September. I’ll tell you his story in my eyes.
We always had a blast together. Grampy, I miss our late night rides on the golf cart in Florida. I miss Grammy having to go get a black coffee with one creamer in the side. I miss him calling everyone “dubs?”, well I do it every now and then. I miss his laugh, because I filled everyone with joy and most of all I miss the love he gave everyone, especially the love you had for Grammy. I miss that he named me SarahDactyl, and always called me it. No one calls me it because that was his name for me. I miss that. Everyone has a hero, he is mine. You always will be.
Grampy, you’re my hero because you went with the flow. You did things you liked to do. You enjoyed life. You gave your heart. I had so many things I wanted to say, so many hugs to be given, and more memories to be made. He never got to see me graduate high school. He won’t be there when I graduate college, when I get married, when I have my first child, but I know that he’ll be watching me every step of the way.
I don’t want to write to you a sad story about my grandfather dying when I was younger. I want you to know that we need research. We can’t keep letting lung cancer go untreated. I need to find more research in order to help people live longer with lung cancer. This organization has given me so many opportunities to succeed in ways I never knew about. I am proud to be with this organization. I am an advocate for all lung cancer patients, and survivors out there. So please donate to lung cancer research, they are finding different ways to help lung cancer patients each day. We are making progress one day at a time.
