Grateful for another year! Help me improve lung cancer outcomes!
Hearing those four words You have lung cancer at the age of 32, with a new baby at home, literally sent me into shock. All I could think about was that I didn't want to die and not see my daughter grow up. Luckily, my cancer hadn't spread and could be treated successfully with surgery.
Unfortunately, most people don't experience dramatic symptoms like I did until the disease has progressed and treatment becomes more difficult. Many doctors, mine included, don't look beyond vague symptoms and consider lung cancer as a possibility in healthy people without a significant smoking history. Lung cancer remains hidden in the body until many times it is too late. It remains hidden in our community due to the erroneous belief that it can be prevented if you just don't smoke, therefore lung cancer patients have brought it on themselves and don't deserve support.
The truth is anyone with lungs is at risk of developing lung cancer, regardless of smoking history. Lung cancer doesn't care if you are young or old, male or female, if you have children, a loving family or vibrant career. The toll lung cancer takes and the lack of support it receives is hideous and I need your support to change this!
Lung cancer claims the lives of more people than breast, prostate, colon, liver, kidney and melanoma cancers combined yet receives a small percentage of research funding.
I’m fundraising to fund critical research and provide families with information about the disease. When I was diagnosed, the 5 year survival rate was only 15%. 21 years later, it is still only 18%. The good news is that the 3% increase has occured in the past few years due to treatments developed through research.
Please help me keep these advances coming by donating today. Your donation will support the Lung Cancer Research Foundation and its mission to improve lung cancer outcomes by funding research for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of lung cancer.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity. Together, we can make a difference for each and every person whose life has been touched by lung cancer.
P.S. After making a donation, please help me raise awareness and funds for lung cancer research by sharing the link to my fundraising page!
