Help me improve lung cancer outcomes!
I will be participating in the Lung Cancer Research Foundation's Free to Breathe Yoga in honor of my beautiful, kind, witty and one-of-a-kind mother, Pam.
My Mom was my best friend, confidant, and number one cheerleader - to say life is not at all the same without her is quite an understatement. After being diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer in February of 2012, she passed away just a month later, turning our family's world upside down.
At the time of my Mom's diagnosis I was just 24, a recent college grad, and quite naive - I knew very little about lung cancer, just generally speaking that hearing a cancer diagnosis is terrifying, but surely my Mom would beat this. Pam was only 63 when she passed away, had recently retired to Hilton Head, SC with my father, and called me every morning before she walked several miles with new friends in their neighborhood. She had recently given up drinking and smoking, and was beginning to cook organically - in essence, she was doing everything "right."
Unfortunately, since finding Free to Breathe and now the Lung Cancer Research Foundation, I have learned my Mom's fierce but all-too-brief battle with lung cancer was not uncommon. I learned that this insidious disease takes more lives each year than breast, prostate, and colon cancers - COMBINED - yet receives significantly less funding per life lost. WHAT?!?
Through my work with the Lung Cancer Research Foundation, professionally and as an advocate myself, I am committed to changing the future of this disease and making lung cancer survival the expectation and NOT the exception. For my Mom, Pam, of course, but also for the far too many families I've become close with over the past 3 years since joining the organization. I've met far too many young adults who, like me, have lost their parents from lung cancer, and while I am grateful to have met some incredibly inspiring survivors, the fact is there simply are not enough of them.
I need your help to make lung cancer survival the standard - won't you please support my fundraising efforts with a donation of any amount meaningful to you? Your gift will support the Lung Cancer Research Foundation and its mission to improve lung cancer outcomes by funding research for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of lung cancer.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity. Together, we can make a difference for each and every person whose life has been touched by lung cancer.
P.S. After making a donation, please help me raise awareness and funds for lung cancer research by sharing the link to my fundraising page!
