Thank you for visiting my Butterfly Wings fundraising page!
This is Team Butterfly Wings' second year fundraising for the LCRF Free to Breathe Yoga event. Last year I was absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of love and support that I received. We're here to do it again this year, and we need your help! Please consider donating and/or joining our yoga team! Thank you!
Mom absolutely loved butterflies and is the inspiration behind this team. Linda lost her battle with Lung Cancer in September of 2013. This excerpt from my eulogy still resonates just as deep today:
She was such a fighter. After being diagnosed in December of 2011, she almost never missed a day of work through chemo and radiation. She loved her job and her kids just that much. Her strength, even up until the end is inspiring. She wasn’t going to give up. She was so grateful to have us in her life, but she has no idea the impact she’s had or how grateful we are to have had her in our lives.
As a donor and/or member of our team, you honor Linda by continuing her fight against cancer.
In the recent years, I have found myself wanting to learn more about and give back to cancer research. I have recently joined the Lung Cancer Research Foundation group in Madison and have already felt incredibly pulled towards them as an organization and group of women. The statistics are staggering and has been a driving factor in why I have become so involved and passionate about this cause. The stigma around Lung Cancer, whether you were a smoker or not, has affected the way the public perceives those who are diagnosed and has led to beliefs that Lung Cancer is “self-inflicted”. With the public believing that “this could all be avoided if you just didn’t smoke”, it isn’t hard to believe that Lung Cancer is underfunded. However, many who are diagnosed with Lung Cancer have never smoked. And for those that did, that choice doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be putting efforts into bettering their quality of life after being diagnosed or finding a cure. Cancer is already scary and ugly, and everyone deserves to be cared about and loved when going through that battle. Fight the stigma.
Although Lung Cancer is the number one cancer killer in the world, per death it is the most underfunded cancer at just $2,309 of 2018 US Funding per death. More people die in the US from Lung Cancer than Pancreatic, Breast, and Prostate combined. Due to a lack in early detection and prevention, Lung Cancer is often diagnosed in a late stage, at which point it is difficult to treat. Research devoted to early detection and prevention will be key in improving and saving lives. With your help, we can fund groundbreaking research for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of Lung Cancer.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity. Together, we can make a difference for each and every person whose life has been touched by lung cancer. Please join my team and/or donate to Team Butterfly Wings.
After making a donation, please help me raise awareness and funds for lung cancer research by sharing the link to my fundraising page!
About The Free to Breathe Yoga Event:
The Lung Cancer Research Foundation's Free to Breathe Yoga is a one-of-a-kind event where teams fundraise to earn their spot for a day of yoga, wellness activities, and community. Teams honor those who have been diagnosed with lung cancer, while celebrating health and the power of breath. Our goal is to share information on the reality of lung cancer, and how we can support local efforts to raise awareness and funding critical to changing the outcome of a diagnosis.
