Help me improve lung cancer outcomes!
When mom lost her voice in February, 2011, no one thought it was anything more than a severe sore throat. After a few weeks and no improvement, many tests and doctors visits, we learned that she had a paralyzed vocal chord that was being choked by cancerous growths. In March 2011, my mom Terry was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer. She had cancerous growths on both of her lungs, in her lymph nodes and several leisions on her brain. Mom went through numerous chemo and radiation treatments to fight off the cancer, but less than two years from her diagnosis, the cancer overpowered her body and she was taken by this terrible disease.
While I miss my mom everyday, I at least had 29 amazing years with her. My son will never have a chance to meet her, talk with her, hug her, play with her. I hate cancer, in all of its numerous forms and want to do something to help raise awareness, but also help fight it, in any way that I can. Cancer has taken too many of my loved ones and has touched too many lives. It needs to be stopped.
It's been 10 years since my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. During those years, the advancements in available treatments (chemotherapy, targeted drugs, and immunotherapy) has increased significantly with substantially better outcomes for those who receive a lung cancer diagnosis. Those new treatments are a direct result of the donations you've made to advance research and drive results. Please continue to help in this fight against lung cancer. One day there will be a cure, and we will be a part of it. Your support means so much!
